WHAT IS CPU? 

 

UNDERSTANDING THE CPU : CPU (full name central Processing Unit) commonly known as the brain of the computer, is the central point of the computer a system where most of the calculations take place and from where the commands for the functioning are given.

It is also called the central processor, microprocessor or simply processor. The CPU contains at least one chip which performs all the calculations.

 

CPU contains three main parts –  ALU – (Arithmetic Logic Unit) which perform mathematical, logical and decision operations and CU (Control Unit) which directs all the processor’s operations. Immediate Access Store -this is memory available for programs and data which can be immediately accessed and stored the user. The two main components of CPU ALU and CU work together to allow the CPU in the handling of a wide array of functions and tasks rapidly.

 

UNDERSTANDING THE CPU : HOW CPU WORKS?

 

 

 The computer does its primary work inside a control center i.e. CPU. Technically It is a highly complex extensive set of electronic circuitry that reduces stored program instructions. All computers whether large and small must have a central Processing Unit to function.

 

The working of the Central Processing Unit (CPU) is a three-step process. Firstly the required instruction is fetched from memory. Secondly, the instruction is decoded and the processor figures out what it’s being told to do. Thirdly the instruction is executed and an operation is performed. These three basic steps repeat in a cycle that begins with the CPU fetching the next instruction and these steps are referred to as the instruction cycle of the CPU.

 

UNDERSTANDING THE CPU : HOW CPU WORKS WITH MEMORY

 

Computer memory refers to the area where data and programs are stored. The CPU relies heavily on this memory which stores program instructions and the data the instructions operate on.

 

Memory is a temporary nature and only holds instructions and data for a program was the program is executed secondary memory is the permanent storage provided hard drive and flash drive.

 

The control unit of the CPU is responsible for moving instructions and data from secondary storage into main memory prior to instruction execution. The control unit also move the results of an instructions to secondary storage.

 

UNDERSTANDING THE CPU : WHY DO WE NEED CPU?

 

CPU process every single operation that you do with your computer. The performance of a computer is based on simple mathematical operations and CPU is the only part that controls all the operations of the CPU which makes its importance similar to that of the brain of every human being. So we do have our brain we would be dead so likewise If there is no CPU any computer will not operate at all.

 

The basic steps taken under processing of data that is to fetch, to record, to execute and to store is performed only the CPU of a computer and no other part is capable of doing that, Hence it is practically proven and important that we need CPU and every work we do with the computer is due to the CPU only because it is both the brain and heart of it and is needed always that is why we need CPU.
