Increasing obscenity in Bollywood and its effects on Indian Society

For years, Bollywood has been a prime source of entertainment for us Indians, majorly. It has given to us a wide variety of films from flops to hits too high grossing box office super hits.

With the change in our cinema, screenplay, acting and everything else over the last century, there is one thing that been consistent and prominent, it is the obscenity in the films. Although technically speaking, even that has increased drastically, there is no improvement to this area of Bollywood as there is to others like writing, direction etc.

There has always been a hint of obscenity in our films, be it black and white films or colour films, there has always been a touch of skin showing majorly actresses. Today, there is an increasing amount of actors showing skin bringing them at a closer number to the actresses. There is a fine line between what skin showing as art and cinema and vulgarity and obscenity, which your beloved industry often fails to understand.

A little show of skin works, it makes sense, but the way this industry objectifies women, actresses in what is often called critically acclaimed movies and item numbers is the cause of concern. You see and enjoy these movies and songs often failing to understand the effects it would have on young minds or the kind of impression these movies and songs leave on those people for whom, they aren’t meant to be watched or heard.

Everyone in the industry works to their fullest potential, no doubt about that but what you fail to understand is the fact that their work is to provide you all with something to watch, listen to and enjoy, they are not on the flip side of the coin, they do not walk alone on the road in the evening when it is dark and there are people cat calling you, they do not witness the kind of objectification that is done to women, they do not have the sense of understanding of the fact that after their job of giving you movies and songs is done, there exist a lot of side effects.

However, you are in no position to blame the industry because you yourselves are a part of this vicious cycle of calling these item numbers and movies corrupt and having a bad effect on your minds but on the other hand you are found dancing to these item numbers, encouraging kids to perform on these songs at auspicious events.

Ultimately, the thought has to be put into people’s minds to take a check on the increasing obscenity in your industry, which has given us an enormous amount of good films, to take into consideration that the same actors and actresses who are in these movies and songs use a lot of security when promoting or otherwise and wear traditional or body covering clothes, but same is not the case with the normal average human, you have to be on guard always.
