Eleven fugitive criminals bought back to India over the last three years
On Wednesday, the government of India has declared that eleven fugitive criminals have been bought back to India over the course of the last three years. The eleven fugitive criminals include Christian Michel who is the alleged middleman in the notorious Augusta Westland helicopter deal case.
The minister of state for External Affairs Vijay Kumar Singh made this revelation in the Parliament when he answered a written question while the Lok Sabha was in session. He stressed that the current government is making sufficient efforts to bring back criminals running away from justice and bringing back these eleven fugitive criminals is a result of these efforts. He said, “In the last three years, 11 fugitive criminals from various foreign countries, including the recent extradition of Christian Michel from UAE, were successfully brought back to India,”
The work done India includes the signing of extradition treaties with fifty countries while entering extradition arrangements with a furthermore of ten countries. This is based on strong international ties that have been cultivated over the years as it is not possible to sign such treaties or enter such agreements with countries on is not on friendly terms with.
The fact that eleven fugitive criminals were extradited over the last three years proves the thorough, good and pointed implementation of these policies and agreements.
As the minister of state for External Affairs, Mr Vijay Kumar Singh also said in his statement that he made on the floor of Lok Sabha, “It is the policy of the Government of India to conclude extradition treaties with as many countries as possible so as to ensure that fugitive criminal do not escape justice. As of now, India has signed extradition treaties with a total of 50 countries and entered into extradition arrangements with 10 more countries to facilitate extradition.”
