Can Kashmir return to normalcy?

Taking an important position on Kashmir policy, Modi government has decided to talk with different stakeholder of Kashmir. For this purpose, Central Government has appointed Dineshwar Sharma, former Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) as an interlocutor for Kashmir. Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced this decision on 23 October. In His accoutrement Home Minister stated that Sharma will initiate a sustained interaction and dialogue to understand legitimate aspirations of people in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

This initiative is being considered as boldest step Narendra Modi government on Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti welcomed this initiative.

 

Ex-IB chief as the choice of interlocutor Home Minister Rajnath Singh is also lauded the people.

 

People also suggested to have Kashmiri Pandit as stakeholders in talks on Kashmir.

However, some people are sceptical about this talk process and termed it as U-turn on Kashmir the government.

Central government has been very tough with the terrorists in Kashmir as more than 150 top terrorists are killed in last few months. NIA has also nabbed many separatist leaders for terror funding. This interlocutor initiative is another milestone in the government’s approach. Amidst hope and scepticism, It would be interesting to see the outcome of the talks hold the interlocutor.
