1. Tawang Monastery, Arunachal Pradesh

Being the largest monastery in India, Tawang Monastery is surely a famous pilgrimage site for the followers of Buddhism. Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso built this monastery in 1680-1681 with the wishes of the 5th Dalai Lama in the Northwestern part of Arunachal Pradesh. It is very close to the Tibet as it is located in the Tawang-chu valley which resides in Tibet. The monastery is 10,000 feet (3,000 m) above the sea level. Within the complex, there are 65 residential buildings and ten other structures which give shelter to around 700 monks.

2. Majuli, Assam

If you are visiting Assam, then any chance you shouldn’t miss a chance to visit Majuli. As it is the world’s largest river island and also is a principal seat of Vaishnava sect of Brahmins. It is located 200km east of capital city of Guwahati. The island is also home to a diverse fauna such as Little Grebe, Large Cormorant, Spotted Billed Pelican, Open Bill Stoke, White Adjutant Stork, Purple Heron, Pond Heron, and the list goes on.

3.Loktak Lake, Manipur

Loktak lake is the largest freshwater lake in India and is located in Moirang, Manipur. It is the only floating lake in the world due to the floating Phumdis (a series of floating islands) on it. On the South Eastern shores of the lake is situated Keibul Lamjao National Park which is the only refuge left for the endangered Sangai or brow-antlered deer

4.Root Bridge, Meghalaya

Bridges in Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya aren’t built of brick, steel and stone surprisingly they grow out of trees. These living bridges are able to support the weight of 50 people at once and grow from the roots of Ficus Elastica Tree. 5. Dampa Sanctuary, Mizoram

Dampa being Mizoram’s biggest wildlife sanctuary includes a vivid landscape containing high hills, jungle streams, valleys and natural salts licks and several endangered wild animals, including the endemic Leaf Monkey. Dampa Sanctuary is located near the international border with Bangladesh which is situated 125km away from the capital Aizwal.

6. Dzoukou Valley, Nagaland

Dzukou Valley is situated at an altitude of 2438 metres above sea level and is just on the border of Nagaland and Manipur. As you reach there, look out for its rare Dzukou lily and the breathtaking lush green meadows that instantly soothes your sight.

7. Neermahal Palace, Tripura

Neermahal is located in the middle of Rudrasagar lake in Tripura. King Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman built the palace as a summer residence in the year 1930. Situated 53 kilometres away from Agartala, the palace is a perfect mixture of Hindu and Muslim architecture. Neelmahal is the only water palace in North East India and in winters a large number of migratory birds reside on the lake.
