WhatsApp porn group admin held in Mumbai due to consent issue
For the first time in Mumbai, a WhatsApp group administrator has been arrested. The reason is adding a woman’s mobile number without her consent to a group that shares pornographic content.
The name of the person arrested is Mustaq Ali Shaikh. He is 24 years of age. He is a carpenter from West Bengal. He is currently in police custody. He was arrested under IPC sections for outraging the modesty of a woman. This is under 67 and 67-A of the IT Act.
Matunga police made the arrest. They said that this was a lesson for all administrators. They will now be cautious about who they add and what is posted.
Investigating officer Maruti Shelke said that the complainant was a housewife. He said that her number was added to the group in September. The name of the group was ‘Triple XXX’. Shelke said, “She thought it was a prank friends but found pornographic photos and videos flooding in the group. She then lodged the complaint.”
In the complaint, she said that when she looked at the administrator and 12 group members’ numbers in the morning, she realised that she did not recognize anyone. Senior Inspector Bharat Bhoite said that after registering a complaint, the police found that Shaikh’s phone number was from West Bengal.
He said, “Just when we were about to send a team to West Bengal, the mobile service provider told us Shaikh was very much in Mumbai. He was arrested from the Sion-Dharavi area.”
Selkhe added, “During interrogation, he apologised and said that he may have accidentally added the complainant’s number. He said he thought the number belonged to his brother-in-law and did not remember how he had the complainant’s number. He said he had no intention to hurt anybody and that the WhatsApp porn group was formed his friends with no woman members.”
The WhatsApp porn group admin was held for perhaps a mistake. Refrain from making such mistakes and check who you are adding to your groups.
