YouTuber sent to jail for tricking a homeless man
The Spanish YouTuber ReSet came under the force of the law recently. ReSet was found guilty of tricking a homeless man. He gave the homeless man an Oreo cookie filled with toothpaste. ReSet has been sentenced to prison for 15 months. He must also pay $22,300 to the victim.
The victim was a 52- year old homeless man. It has been reported that he started vomiting after ingesting the toothpaste cookies. He later said that “he has never been treated so poorly while living on the street.” The YouTuber is a prankster who goes the name ReSet. His real name is Kanghua Ren. He was found guilty of violating the moral integrity of the homeless man. Ren has been sent to jail for 15 months as punishment. It is unlikely that Ren will serve any time behind bars, however. That is because, under Spanish laws, sentences under two years for first-time offenders in non-violent crimes are usually suspended. In his defence, ReSet said that it was all a “bad joke”. Spanish media reported that he told the court, “I do things to mount a show: People like what is morbid.”
The judge has stated that Ren had earned more than 2000 euros from the advertising revenues generated the video. And this was only one of the several he has filmed in response to various challenges.
It is true that from time to time, harmless pranks can be a good source of entertainment. But social media culture and snap finger fame gains committing despicable acts against the less fortunate is not at all appreciated. Often such pranksters do not have to face any punishments or take responsibility for their actions.
