Buddha Purnima 2019: Buddha Purnima is a big festival which followers of both Hindu and Buddhist religions celebrate with great enthusiasm. It is believed that on this day, the founder of Buddhism, Mahatma Buddha was born.
At the same time, Buddha is considered to be the incarnation of Lord Hari Vishnu, hence this full moon has special significance for Hindus too. Due to the birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha, Buddha Purnima is celebrated in the form of Buddha Jayanti and Vesak festival. It is believed that on this day, he had attained the knowledge under the Bodhi tree and that is also his Nirvana day.

According to the Hindu calendar, Vaishakha Purnima of Vaisakh month is celebrated as Buddha Purnima. According to the Gregorian calendar, Buddha Purnima comes in the month of April or May every year. This time Buddha Purnima is on 18th May.

Buddha Purnima has special significance in the Hindu religion. Lord Buddha was born on the full moon day of Wasak month. Mahatma Buddha is believed to be the ninth incarnation of Lord Hari Vishnu, the goddess of creation. This full moon is also known as Siddha Vinayak Purnima or Satya Vinayak Purnima.
It is said that on the day of Vaishakha Purnima, Buddha was conferred intellectualism under the Peepal tree in Bodh Gaya. Not only this, on the day of Vaisak Purnima, Buddha had left for Mahanvivaran in Kushinagar, located 50 kilometres away from Gorakhpur. In addition to the Hindus, people of Buddhism celebrate this day as Buddha Jayanti.
Lord Buddha is the only founder of Buddhism. This Buddha is a great festival for followers. Several types of celebrations have been organized on this day. Programs are organized according to the customs and culture of different countries in different countries. The people of Sri Lanka celebrate this day as ‘Vesak’ festival which is a disadvantage of the word ‘Vaisakh’.
Lamps are lit in Buddhist homes on this day and the houses are decorated with flowers. Buddhists from all over the world come to Bodhgaya and pray. On this day Buddhist scriptures are constantly recited. The Bodhi Vriksha is worshipped. On its branches necklace and colourful signatures are decorated. In the roots, milk and aromatic water are poured. The lamps are lit around the tree.
Buddha Purnima 2019: What to do on Buddha Purnima?
– Before the sunrise rise, clean the house.
-Bathing in the Ganges or bathing with plain water, sprinkle the Ganges water.
– Worship of Lord Vishnu’s lamp lighting the lamp in the house and decorate the house with flowers.
– Make the swastika from turmeric, roli or kumkum at the main entrance of the house and sprinkle the Ganga.
– Burn the lamps around the Bodhi tree and dissolve the milk in its roots and offer flowers.
– Donate food and clothes to the poor.
– If there is a bird in your house then free them on this day.
– Offer water to the rising moon after lightening.
