US will consider Afghan factor in the impact of Iran Sanctions on India
The President of the United States of America recently pulled out of a nuclear deal. This deal was signed between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany and the European Union. The impact of Iran sanctions on India is a matter to be looked into.
The United States of America has said that it will end sanctions on Iran in return for Tehran stopping nuclear weapons development. The US will take into consideration the impact of American sanctions against Tehran on India’s Chabahar port project in Iran. It provides a surface link between India and Afghanistan.
Washington has already begun reimposing sanctions on Iran. It has warned those trading with it would come under its ambit.
Last year, New Delhi sent 1.1 million tonnes of wheat as an aid to Afghanistan. This was sent to Chabahar and the road link to it built to connect it to that country.
India is investing $500 million to develop the Chabahar port and the road link to Afghanistan. The impact of Iran sanctions on India will surely hinder the inflow and outflow of trade good and aide between the two countries.
The US believes the relations between Washington and Delhi are currently on an upward trajectory. It is one of the most dynamic and strategically important partnerships that the US enjoys.
India holds an important position in the US foreign policies under the Trump administration. The US agreed that in any mature partnership differences are bound to occur. Constructive conversations must be a constant habit between two powerful nations with the same interests but varying tactics towards a particular region or territory and their interactions with the said region or territory.
