Earthquake hit China, Resulted in huge injuries and life loss
Earthquake is a natural calamity which does not make any difference among anyone. It is the shaking of the earth surface, resulting from shifting of tectonic plates in the crust of Earth. Its effects are terrible and devastating.
Since China is from one of the countries which face an earthquake on a regular basis. A strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake with a depth of 16 kilometers in southwest China rose to 12 dead and 134 injured on late Monday. Rescuers pulled bodies and survivors from wrecked buildings.
The quake roughly hit 30 minutes apart, the southwestern province of Sichuan late on Monday, with shaking felt in key regional cities, such as the provincial capital of Chengdu and the metropolis of Chongqing.
The early warning alarm system was triggered in the provincial capital Chengdu about one minute before the earthquake struck. The alert rang 10 seconds before it hit Yibin. A three-second headstart before an earthquake strike can prevent 14 percent of casualties.
More than 40000 people are relocated as dozens of structures were damaged outside Yibin in Sichuan province. The area was hit a series of four aftershocks, the largest of which has a magnitude of 5.2.
The Ministry of Emergency Management and the provincial department of emergency management have activated an “Emergency Response”. The ministry has sent the work team to the affected area to provide guidance in rescue and disaster relief.
More than 500 firefighters have been dispatched to the scene. The National Food and Strategic Reserve Administration and the Ministry have dispatched 5000 tents, 10,000 folding beds and 20,000 quilts to the quake-hit area.
The Hongyuan Hotel in Meidong Township collapsed during the earthquake and quake has caused cracks in the major highway connecting Yibin and Xuyong county of Sichuan Lizou city and it has been closed.
Meidong and Shuanghe, which are near epicenter of the quake are suffering from poor telecommunication and are being lashed heavy rains since Monday. The earthquake is presumed to be induced an explosion. In September 2017 a test conducted at North Korea’s nuclear site at Punggye- RI triggered a 6.3magnitude earthquake that was felt across China’s northern border.
Earthquake regularly strikes Sichuan, where a power of 7.9 magnitude- quake left 87000 people dead or missing in 2008. China should take some precautious measures so that it can reduce the effect of such disasters as “Precaution is better than cure”.
