DMK chief M Karunanidhi in the Hospital, Doctors report BP as stable
Five times Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK chief M Karunanidhi were rushed to Chennai based Kauvery Hospital past midnight as his blood pressure continued to fall. It was only hours after his son and DMK leader M Stalin issued a statement declaring an improvement in his health and urging party workers to stay calm and not believe in rumours.“He is better. His blood pressure has stabilized,” said his daughter Kanimozhi to reporters in the morning. “His blood pressure has stabilized with medical management and he continues to be monitored and treated a panel of expert doctors,” was the statement of hospital’s executive director Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj.
DMK chief M Karunanidhi is currently 96 years old and has started his 50th year as party president on Saturday. He has been recovering from a severe illness for more than a year and is now rarely seen in public. Reports also say that he has been tube fed for some time. He had just returned home after being admitted for a while in Kauvery Hospital where he had undergone a procedure to change his tracheostomy tube to help him breathe better and was being provided hospital-level care at home. He had also been suffering from a urinary tract fever that resulted in high fevers.
Streams of politicians have been visiting the DMK chief M Karunanidhi to enquire after his health. The list includes AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran and Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress. On Thursday, several national leaders like President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Congress President Rahul Gandhi spoke to his children and DMK leaders M Stalin and Kanimozhi to inquire about the ‘Kalaignar’ (artiste) as his supporters and followers call him.
DMK chief M Karunanidhi does have many supporters who have gathered outside the Kauvery Hospital DMK leader’s Gopalapuram home after his son failed to them of the improvement in his health. Many of them were in tears anxious about the health of their beloved leader.
We all pray for the speedy recovery of DMK chief M Karunanidhi.
