Neeraj Chopra wins gold in Javelin Throw: Asian Games 2018

India’s javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra brought up the hopes of the nation to new heights. The elevated Indian audience witnessed a historical event on Monday. For the first time in history, India achieved a gold medal in the sport of javelin throwing.

This feat was achieved the country through the capable and deft arms of Neeraj Chopra. This was also India’s second medal in javelin throwing in Asian Games history. The first one was a bronze medal won Gurtej Singh in 1982 in New Delhi.

This was India’s eighth gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games. Neeraj Chopra received six attempts in total. He committed two fouls. His second and sixth attempts were fouls. The third attempt was his best distance thrown at 88.06 metres. His fourth attempt was an 83.25 metres throw. The fifth one was 86.36 metres.

Neeraj Chopra even broke his own national record at the Games. He did this clearing a distance of 88.06 metres in his third attempt of the total six attempts given.

Liu Qizhen of China came in second with a best throw of 82.22 metres. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the bronze with a best throw distance of 80.75 metres. None of the competitors had an 85-plus throw distance this season.

Neeraj Chopra’s biggest rival was supposed to be China’s Tsao Tsun Cheng. Last year, he recorded a throw of 91.36 metres. But the Chinese thrower could only manage a best throw of 79.81 metres. He finished fifth.

Neeraj Chopra won the Federation Cup in March with a throw distance of 85.94 metres. He also bagged a gold in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games with a throw of 86.47 metres.

India has won a total of 8 gold medals in the Asian Games. Neeraj Chopra’s win escalated the number from seven to eight. India has won a total of 41 medals in the Asian Games. The youth of India has made the country proud.
