Tajinderpal Singh Toor wins gold in Asian Games: Sets new record

Tajinderpal Singh Toor of India had made a lot of sacrifices in his life. He had to leave behind a father who was battling with cancer. Still, he followed his dreams and passions. This finally paid off on Saturday. He brought home the Asian Games gold medal.

Toor is 23 years old and hails from Moga. He not only won the gold but also set a new record. He threw the iron ball 20.75m in his fifth attempt. This was set against the six-year-old mark set Om Prakash Karhana.

Tajinderpal commented that he did not think of winning the gold. His mind was set on hitting the 21m mark. “I just had one aim in mind. I wanted to clear 21 meters. I did not think of gold. But I am happy with this. I was trying hard to break the national record for the last 2-3 years and it happened today, that too with a meet record.”

Tajinderpal also said that the achievement meant a lot to him and his family.

For the last two years, Karam Singh, father of Tajinderpal, has been battling cancer. But still, Toor’s family did not let him get distracted. They supported him in his dream. Toor stated that the sacrifices that had been made his friends and family had paid off through the Asian Games gold medal.

Toor also stated that his victory in the Asian Games was also credited to his coach, MS Dhillon. He supported Toor through his training in Dharamsala. Tajinderpal now intends to visit his father. He will be staying for only two days, after which he will reinitiate his training.

This victory of Tajinderpal Singh Toor has made the nation proud. His achievement is a testament to all the sacrifices and pains that he has gone through in his life. May he continue to bring laurels for himself and for the nation.
