Sebastian Vettel Wins The Fourth Race This Year
Sebastian Vettel wins again, levelling with Alain Prost for 51 wins, after Michael Schumacher’s 91 and Lewis Hamilton’s 65. Even though he was criticized for his success at Red Bull with having a superior car instead of his mesmerizing driving skills if he defeats Hamilton who just extended his contract with Mercedes till 2020, his place amongst the all-time greats will be beyond question.
Vettel and Hamilton both have been drivers with the potential to beat Schumacher’s record of a whopping 91 wins. Vettel had the edge over Hamilton having won 39 times to Hamilton’s 22 the end of the 2013 season. Despite the wins, there was always a perception that Vettel had it easy because of the supremacy of the Red Bull car while other drivers were trying to compete in rather uncompetitive machines.
In between all of this, people chose to overlook the skill of the German who had the guts to approach the corners with a relatively higher speed and then use the slide to his advantage on the turn. Vettel has always been persistent and even after his first title in 2010 he wasted no time and went on to test tires followed a visit to the factory to have a better understanding of the rubber.
Not just this, Vettel took a break from starting at the top of the grid and controlling the pace and showed people how good he was in pulling off maneuvers like the key passes in China. With 4 wins under his name this year, Sebastian Vettel has been the most complete driver if you could somehow keep his first lap mistake in France out when he hit Bottas.
If Sebastian Vettel wins again and succeeds in clinching his fifth title, he will be able to sit comfortably and silence his critics about the first four titles and get a chair amongst the greatest.
