Plans of entering Pakistan in an arms race with India sparked
The defence deal between Russia and India regarding the S-400 defence system has rattled Pakistan to its very core. The Pakistan Foreign Office in a statement said “Pakistan strongly believes that India’s decision to buy Russian S-400 air defence system will further destabilize strategic stability in South Asia besides leading to a renewed arms race,” Yes, with ten billion dollars foreign exchange reserve in its banks that will run the country for only two months, there are plans of entering Pakistan in an arms race with India.
The financial conditions of Pakistan are not good enough to afford a sophisticated system like S-400 and hence there statement was more of an indirect begging for someone to donate the system to them. What is interesting to note is the fact that our neighbour is considering a scenario of Pakistan in an arms race with India.
Why entering of Pakistan in an arms race with India is an absurd claim
One cannot remember the last time when Pakistan had a stable economy and there are no signs that its condition is going to be any better in the near future. This is the main reason why the claims of entering Pakistan in an arms race with India our neighbours have become a source of ridicule throughout the country.
Pakistan has been facing one economic crisis after the other and is currently facing yet another balance of payments crisis. The nation is planning on moving the International Monetary Fund for help and the bureaucrats with no other sign of one have already prepared a plan for twelve billion dollars of help from the international agency.
If these negotiations see the light of success then it will be the thirteenth time that Pakistan had to take a bailout package since 1988. The last twelve bailout packages from International Monetary Fund in just three decades became a necessity even when the nation was taking consistent monetary help from USA and China.
Despite its dire financial conditions if there raises a situation wherein there is Pakistan in an arms race with India, then the audacity of Pakistan can be called nothing but ridiculous.
