Set a Precedent Through Your Actions
If you want to live your life happily, you will have to learn to change yourself, rather than expecting the people to change for yourself. Changing yourself doesn’t mean losing your core values or identity, neither does it mean to succumb to injustice and external pressure.
It simply means to realize that no matter how hard you try to get along with people, there will be moments when their actions and words may not be in accordance with your actions and words.
They may not agree with you on certain matters or issues, their ideological orientation or way of thinking may be different from yours, they may irritate you their actions. But you have got to understand that, in order to live with them happily, you will have to accept the differences you have with them.
You may expect them to behave, talk, or even think the way you want, but such expectations will only become a source of misery for you. Because expectations, if not fulfilled or broken, hurt the most.
So, next time if some people don’t live up to your certain expectations in their conduct, don’t get angry over them. Don’t try to change or mould their actions and behaviours. If you really want them to change, then try to do it your actions, not words.
For example, if you want somebody to behave in a certain manner which you think is the best and most suitable at a particular time in that certain context, your words would hardly inspire them to change unless until your words are in sync with your actions. Which means, what you expect others to do, you do it yourself first.
As Mahatma Gandhi rightly said, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. Let the positivity of your actions become a source of inspiration for others. Let the precedent you set your action become the driving force for others to transform themselves.
