Uniform Civil Code : Why And Why Not.
Ucc(Uniform Civil Code) was proposed to replace “various personal laws “that are practice various communities
in our country based on the scriptures and their customs with a set of common laws that
would govern every citizen in our country. The demand for uniform civil code was first put
forward women activist in the beginning of the 20th century and the SHAH BANO Case in
1985 driven this revolution to this far i.e. ending the practice of “triple talaq”
Yes:
1. It will make the nation into one nation, bringing every Indian forward, giving equal rights
despites his caste, creed and religion or tribe.
2. It will give minorities a boost in their rights and services that they are discriminate on.
3. One of the major impact will be on political parties as it reduce their vote bank politics
that most party indulge during every election. If all the religion and minorities are
treated equal ,politician will have nothing specific to offer them
4. As this year marked the end of “triple talaq” some other practices that are found
contrary to human laws are liable to be restricted once UCC is implemented .
5. Uniform civil code is gender equality Many Indian women have become a victim of
discrimination at the hands of personal law, be it Hindu or Muslim. And some low caste
discrimination against women will also end , passing of these laws will prove to be a
significant move and give them the chance to stand on their feet strongly this time.
6. Right now we have personal laws based on particular religions, like
1.indian Succession act 1865
2.the Indian marriage act ,1864
there are many other laws like this and All the laws related to marriage, inheritance,
family, land etc. should be equal for all Indians despite their religion. This is the only way
to ensure that all Indians are treated same.

1. This all leads to a loss of the culture and the identity of the minorities.
2. Since the most of the population if is Hindu ,the UCC will be most helpful to Hindus than
other minor communities
3. The sudden change might lead to protest as on one at once wants to leave the
centuries related family practice .
CONCLUSION
The enactment of a UCC at once might disrupt communal harmony, changes never comes
overnight . The better course would be to bring about small reforms, correcting some inherent
irrationality in some of the personal laws, and make them suitable for modern times. The focus
should also be on removing disparities between different religions. This might lay the
foundation of implementing a UCC at a later date. Goa is the only state in India which has a
Uniform Civil Code thus it shows that the enactment of a UCC is indeed feasible in India.
