Tulsi Gabbard could run for the presidency in the year of 2020

The first Hindu lawmaker in the US Congress, Tulsi Gabbard could run for the presidency elections of 2020. She has been a member of the US Congress since the year 2013 after she was elected to the House of Representative from the state of Hawaii. The first US lawmaker to take oath on Bhagavad Gita, Tulsi was born into a Catholic family from Samoa. It was her mother Carol Porter Gabbard who professes Hinduism and introduced her to it. She embraced the ancient religion in her teen years and is now well versed with the scriptures of Hinduism.

The announcement

A doctor of Indian origin, Dr Sampat Shivangi and a close friend of Gabbard gave the indication that Tulsi Gabbard could run for presidency while she introduced her at the Medtronic Conference in Los Angeles. The statement generated a standing ovation while Gabbard neither denied nor confirmed what was said.

The decision that Tulsi Gabbard could run for the presidency in 2020 is expected to be taken after Christmas. Experts also say that she might consider her current position and take a year before announcing the decision to contest in the presidential elections. If the reports are to be believed then her team has already begun to quietly reach out to prospective donors which include a substantial number of Indian American people. It is largely believed that Indian Americans will be targeted in a big way in her campaign.

The first thing that strikes one when one hears that Tulsi Gabbard could run for the presidency is the fact that if she wins then she would not only be the first Hindu president of US but also the first female president of the United States, something that Hillary Clinton could not do. She would also be the youngest president of the United States of America to date.
