RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat speaks at second world hindu conference.

The Second World Hindu Congress was organised on Friday in Chicago, USA. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed a gathering of two thousand and five hundred delegates from all over the world with a speech that made headlines.

The Second World Hindu Congress marked the anniversary of the historic speech given Swami Vivekananda on Hinduism in Chicago.

It was speaking on this occasion that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said”The three goals of World Hindu Congress are enlighten, reform and advance. World Hindu Congress brings enlightenment throughout the world about Hindu community through spirituality, harmony and inclusiveness,”

“Hindus must reform and be in the forefront in eliminating social and economic inequality, fostering cooperation among those with ideas and resources, and view commerce as a means to furthering Hindu dharma for a better tomorrow,” he added.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat also said that Hindu society has suffered for thousands of years because it forgot its basic principles and spiritualism. “We have knowledge and wisdom but we have forgotten how to work together. Even today Hindu society has the largest number of meritorious people across all societies. But they never come together,” he said.

While some parts of his speech garnered immense support like his statement “We are not an enslaved society. We are not a downtrodden society. Hindus serve all poor across the society. That is what we have been doing. Nothing is untouchable and every activity should be surcharged with spirituality,” other parts received wide criticism and intense flak.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in his Chicago speech said “Coming together of Hindus is itself is a difficult thing. In initial days of our Sangh vargh, when our karyakartas used to go and talk to Hindu eminences about organising the Hindus, they used to say that a lion doesn’t walk in the crowd. But even the lion, the Royal Bengal tiger, the king of his own jungle, if he is alone, wild dogs together can invade and destroy.”

The analogies of animals used hurt a lot of people, most prominent amongst them being AIMIM chief A. Owaisi who said “I don’t know why he has to use this kind of language. Is he referring to wildlife or forest to make comments like dogs and all. Are you trying to say that others are weak and you are powerful? I’m not surprised they have been using this kind of language for so many years. But the people of India will object this,”

Rakesh Sinha, a BJP Rajya Sabha member came to the defence of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat saying “This analogy of his is just to communicate with the people all over the world to the Indians and Hindus, that if you get divided on the basis of narrow…like caste, language then the danger of aggression is inevitable, and history is witness of that.”

The Second World Hindu Congress assembled to mark the anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s inspirational words about tolerance. However, the speech made and the reactions received prove that we have a long way to go to achieve what Swami Vivekananda spoke about.
