The Sad Story Of The Polar Bear Invasion
A unique incident took place on a Russian archipelago when a polar bear invasion led to the declaration of emergency in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. This archipelago is situated in northwestern Russia and has a population of approximately three thousand people.
What these three thousand people would have never imagined was that they would witness a polar bear invasion. In the last few weeks, scores of really aggressive polar bears entered the homes and public buildings of the archipelago and created havoc. The regional authorities have pleaded for help to tackle this problem of “a mass invasion of polar bears into inhabited areas,” in a statement.

The actions taken the authorities
The higher authorities of the Russian Federation have refused to grant permission to shoot the polar bears. They are as of now sending a commission to investigate into the polar bear invasion and the possibility of cull has not been ruled out.

What caused this polar bear invasion
The rampant global warming had affected the polar bears in the worst way possible. The Arctic ice is melting at an alarming rate. This is forcing polar bears to spend more and more time on land. This is leading to a severe increase in competition for food. This is what might have caused the polar bear invasion of Russia.
Russia’s stand on the matter
Russia recognizes polar bears as an endangered species and has banned the hunting if the same. In the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, however, the air defence troops and the air force is based. The polar bear invasion started in December. Since then more than fifty polar bears have been regularly visiting the main settlements. These polar bears have been reportedly very aggressive in their behaviour.
The deputy chief of the local administration informed that there are always at least five to six polar bears at any given time in the settlement. They have often attacked people going in and out of buildings. “People are scared, they are afraid to leave their homes… parents are frightened to let their children go to schools and kindergartens.” He said in a statement. The authorities maintain that the number if bears is unprecedented.

This is a sad story because we all know that any decision will be taken in the favour of humans and the polar bears will suffer for no fault of their own. They are already suffering because man refuses to take global warming seriously and they will suffer more as soon as the Russian authority decides to do something about the polar bear invasion.
