PM Modi will unveil Sardar Vallabhbhai’s Statue of Unity

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is known as the Iron Man of India, the Bismark of India. He is one of the tallest figures in the history of the Indian subcontinent. He achieved great strides in uniting the warring princely states with the country of India. India wouldn’t be what it is today without his contributions. Vallabhbhai’s Statue of Unity is a testament to his legacy.

Vallabhbhai’s Statue of Unity stands proudly with a height of 182 metres. It is the tallest statue in the world. It is twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty. The construction of this statue had an expense of Rs. 2389 crores. It is located 3.2 km downstream of the Narmada Dam in Gujrat.

Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India will unveil this statue on the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. At the launch ceremony, PM Modi will pour soil and Narmada water into an urn. Modi was the one who laid the foundation stone for the statue five years ago, way back in 2013 on 31st October. At that point in time, he was the Chief Minister of Gujrat.

For the statue of the Iron Man, iron was collected from all over India. The statue has been designed Padma Bhushan-winning sculptor, Ram V Sutar. It has been built Larsen and Toubro and the state-run Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd. About 250 engineers and 3,400 labourers toiled to erect this massive statue.

The current world’s tallest statue is China’s Spring Temple Buddha in the central Henan province. The Statue of Unity will stand 177 feet higher than the current world’s tallest statue.

The statue will have a museum on the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The viewing gallery of the statue can accommodate 200 visitors at a time.

Once Vallabhbhai’s Statue of Unity is open to the public, it is being estimated that around 15,000 visitors will visit regularly.
