Rajasthan’s MLA joins college at the age of 59 to complete his education.

“There is no particular age for learning anything new.” Phool Singh Meena, an MLA from Rajasthan, has proved this right joining a college to complete his education at the age of 59. Phool Singh couldn’t continue his studies due to the demise of his father. He took up the farming to support his farming at a very early age, and had to drop out of the school when he was is in just class seventh.

During an education campaign for young tribal girls in his constituency, the MLA who is himself a father of four girls realised the need and importance to resume his studies. And, upon being motivated his daughter Meena enrolled himself in an open board to clear his Class 10 examination in 2013 but could not take the test before 2016 owing to his busy schedule. The BJP MLA appeared for his Class 12 examination in 2016-2017 and finally completed his school education.

Meena also got inspired the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao” campaign and encouraged the SC/ST girls of his constituency to go to schools announcing that whoever girls will score above 80% in secondary and higher secondary examinations, they will get the free flight tickets to Jaipur.

According to Meena,” The seed of continuing his studies was in his mind for a quite long time but had not ever got an exposure. But, during the education campaign, the seed buried inside his heart started germinating which eventually inspired him to resume his studies.”

Whether there should be educational qualifications for the politicians or not has always been a debatable topic in our country. Some people think that a politician must have a certain educational qualification to be eligible to contest an election, while others think that it is not the educational qualification but the experience which matters the most. But, this time around, Phool Singh Meena has set a precedence resuming his studies at the age of 59 despite being politically experienced, which is great inspirations for those who often give the excuse of their age to not continue their studies.
