A new scam in the job market: Fake interviews at Krishi Bhawan
An audacious job racket has been busted the police. The scamsters had the nerve to use government offices at the highly secured Krishi Bhawan in Lutyens’ Delhi to conduct fake interviews. The place houses several central ministries.
Fake interviews of aspirants were conducted for jobs in navratna PSUs such as ONGC. Dozens of youth were duped of crores. The police have reported that this racket was being run a software engineer, a director of an online scholarship firm, a graphic designer, a techie and an event manager in connivance with ministry staffers.
The gang had the perfect setup in place. They had also roped in two class IV employees of the rural development ministry. These two had access to most parts of the Krishi Bhawan. They arrange for an empty room and called the victims for the fake interviews.
The scamsters posed as PSU board members and conducted the interviews. The victims even got fake job letters. The mastermind of the scam then collected the payment from them.
Seven of the conmen including the ministry staff have been arrested. The police have recovered 27 mobile phones, two laptops, ten chequebooks, fake ID cards and 45 SIM cards form the accused.
Cops started the investigation after ONGC filed a complaint at the north Vasant Kunj Police Station. The complaint was regarding youth being cheated in the name of jobs in the PSU as assistant engineers. A case was registered and the probe was transferred to the crime branch.
A special team led ACP Aditya Gautam and inspectors Richhpal Singh and Sunil Jain was formed to announce the scam. After two-month long extensive investigations, the police managed to bust the racket.
It is very important to understand that the root of the problem is unemployment. The scamsters were able to coerce out the money form the fake interviews only because the victims were desperate enough. Everyone should be careful of these scams and must look into the background of the employment providing service.
