She is also the first woman to head the research department, which publishes the IMF’s flagship publication, World Economic Outlook.

Gita Gopinath is a US citizen, who was born in Mysuru in 1971.

She had done her earlier education from Kolkata and did her BA (Honours) in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi University. She had done her masters from Delhi School of Economics and University of Washington.

After completing her PhD from Princeton University, she joined the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business as an Assistant Professor.

For the finance minister in India, she served as a member of the Eminent Person Advisory Group on G-20 Matters. She was also appointed as the Economic Advisor to the Kerala CM in 2016.
