Mass shooting at Florida mall: A “Horrible Tragedy”
A gunman opened fire on Sunday afternoon. This mass shooting happened during a video game tournament in Florida. This tournament drew in professional players from all around the world.
The mass shooting resulted in the death of three people. Eleven people were injured. The gunman, who the police claimed killed himself, is among the dead.
The mass shooting occurred at the Madden NFL 19 competition at Jacksonville Landing. This is a popular shopping and dining area in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. Authorities said that they received a 911 distress call at 1:34 pm. This call alerted them of a shooting in Chicago Pizza. It was the mall restaurant that hosted the tournament. Officers had arrived two minutes later.
Jacksonville County Sheriff Mike Williams said officers found three people dead on the scene. This included the gunman. He is believed to be a 24-year old man named David Katz from Baltimore.
Electronic Arts(EA) was the interactive entertainment company that was in charge of the event. EA has been given the tag of the evilest gaming company many a gaming youtuber and through many memes. This was mainly due to its money-grabbing policies. They said that they were aware of the shooting and are coopeating with law enforcement.
Six male shooting victims were treated at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville. Four of them were shot in the torso, said Marie Crandall, the attending trauma surgeon. The two others were shot in the extremities. One victim is in serious condition. But all of them are expected to survive.
Gun control advocated seized the moment to call for action against gun violence. But the ironic fact is that most of the gun violence crimes in the US are conducted with handguns. This includes yesterday’s mass shooting as well. And gun control advocates want to ban “assault weapons”. Technically, there is no such thing as an assault weapon. But going with the gun control vocabulary, this category does not include handguns.
Hence, it is still undecided whether the gun control bill would do any actual good. The sad fact is that a tragic mass shooting incident was turned into a political agenda opportunistic politicians.
