Kerala government to High Court: Allot 2 days for women at Sabarimala
On Friday, the State government of Kerala endorsed a suggestion made four women devotees to the Kerala High Court. The suggestion is that two days during the ongoing annual pilgrimage season could be set aside exclusively for young women to have darshan at Sabarimala. The proposal didn’t have more details.
The submission was made state attorney KV Sohan during the hearing in a case over providing adequate security and facilities for young women mooted setting aside two to three days exclusively to women of all ages. “who are desirous to go to Sabarimala after ridding the shrine, its premises and neartowns from the goons and henchmen.”
A division bench is being led Chief Justice Hrishikesh Roy. They directed the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to inform the bench about infrastructure facilities and safety measures in place for women in the age group of 10 to 50 to visit Sabarimala. The TDB has been asked to file a statement within 7 days.
A petition has been filed Ramesh Nishant of Kannur and three other women. Allegedly, they wish to undertake the Sabarimala pilgrimage this year but are unable to do so due to the ongoing protests. His petition was heard the court. The court said that young women cannot be allowed to walk into trouble while a war is going on between the two groups.
While considering another batch of petitions alleging police atrocities at Sabarimala. a High Court division bench asked the government to bring back normalcy at Sabarimala as soon as possible. The High Court also warned protestors not to take the law into their own hands. The court also expressed dissatisfaction at the delay on the part of the authorities in responding to the petitions.
The Sabarimala issue has been going on for long. The time has finally come for the authorities to take a stand and end this issue. What do you think?
