Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s Permanent Solution – Eradicating Terrorism from Kashmir

Two months ago Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that “We have come up with a permanent solution to solve Kashmir. The initiative has begun. We are moving forward.”

No one could guess the gravity of this statement that time. After two months, today the tally of killed terrorists has matched up to 120. Most of these killed terrorists are the top leaders from their respective terror outfits. Kill list includes top Lashkar commanders Burhan Wani and Zunaid Mattoo, Hizbul commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, Lashkar commander Bashir Lashkari and Majid Mir and most recently Abu Dujana.  Elimination of top terrorist leadership has several came down on terrorist ranks. Specially, after encounter of Burhan Wani and Abu Dujana, other terrorists are scared of becoming poster boy of terrorists. Eventually, the terrorists are slowly losing their remaining local support too.

Security agencies are now zeroing on the remaining terrorists who are currently active. This hit-list includes Abu Ismile, Junaid Islam, Altaf Kachru, Reyaz Nayaku, Saddam, Zakir Musa and many others. Sooner or later, these terrorists are to be eliminated in similar ways.

Strict action against terrorism has affected their recruitment process as well. Now, youths are scared of joining terror ranks. This impact is slowly visible in the Kahsmir valley.

Along with neutralizing these Islamic terrorists, their funding sources have also faced action from security agencies. National Investigation Agency conducted several raids in Srinagar, Delhi and other parts of the country in connection with funding from Pakistan’s ISI to the Kashmiri separatist leaders.  Seven top leaders have been detained the NIA after several rounds of interrogation in Srinagar and New Delhi. Top Hurriyat leader, Geelani’s son in law is also among those who are arrested and no one is ready to take the role of the people who have been arrested. The NIA had also summoned Geelani’s second son, Nassem Geelani, a university professor too in the “terror funding” case. Geelani has been left with no one. Hardly anyone dares to enter his office these days. Hence, NIA crackdown on terror funding in Kashmir has left Hurriyat isolated.

By these actions, and Home Minister statement of ‘permanent solution’, we can ascertain government’s approach on Jammu and Kashmir has three aspects: – determined action against terrorists leading to their elimination where they refuse to surrender, nevertheless local protests around encounter sites; parallel crackdown on Hurriyat separatists linked to terror funding; and a development oriented gentle  attitude towards local civilians.

Seeing the success of this approach one can conclude that this approach is going to stay for longer run and it has the potential to resolve Kashmir problem permanently.
