Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar to Appear in Court Today
Delayed Court Procedure has always been a trademark of the Indian Judicial System. It has been more than 34 years since the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots happened yet there has been no verdict on the Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar who is all set to appear in Court today who has been accused of instigating a mob to kill Sikhs.
Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar to appear in court today
Sajjan Kumar will appear in front of the district judge Poonam Bamba where she would record the statement of a key prosecution witness and Sajjan is asked to appear before the court. Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar along with Brahmanand Gupta and Ved Prakash are facing charges of murder and riots that ultimately led to the killing of Surjit Singh in Sultanpuri.
Earlier, Cham Kaur, in November had identified Sajjan before the court in person who had allegedly sown the seeds for the mob to kill Sikhs. Kaur said “On October 31, 1984, we were watching TV on the demise of Indira Gandhi. On November 1, 1984, when I stepped out to look for my goat, I saw accused Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar addressing the crowd and was saying ‘hamari ma maar di. Sardaro ko maar do’”
Cham Kaur wasn’t the only person who had identified Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar. Before her, Sheela Kaur also identified her in court when it came to instigating a mob to kill the Sikhs. The case was transferred to the Patiala House Court the Delhi high court which had recorded the district judge to record the proceedings the cost of which was to be borne the accused. All three of them, Sajjan Kumar, Brahmanand Gupta and Ved Prakash had agreed to this.
The Delhi High Court has already sentenced Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar to imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life in another 1984 anti-Sikh riots case calling the riots a “crime against humanity” which were instigated those who enjoy “political patronage.”
