Bharat Bandh called against SC/ST Act Amendments
A Bharat Bandh had been proposed on Wednesday, the 6th of September. It was proposed for those working for the rights of the unreserved category in the country. The bandh has been called in protest of the SC/ST amendment.
It has been reported that the Madhya Pradesh police has imposed Section 144 across five districts in the state. The amendment bill was passed in July. It overrode the Supreme Court ruling diluting it.
A high alert has been issued across 35 districts of Madhya Pradesh. Security has been tightened. Protesters in Bihar halted trains in Darbhanga, Arrah and Mungers’s Masudan as a part of the Bharat Bandh.
The participating groups in the Noida Lok March include the Noida Entrepreneurs Association (NEA), the Brahman Samaj Seva Samiti, the Agarwal Mitra Mandal and other representatives of trade unions and resident welfare associations (RWAs). These groups claimed that they are opposed to the reservation system on the grounds of religion and caste. They are asking for a quota system based on economic status.
Protests were carried out in several states such as Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. This has affected the normative lifestyle of the states. Shops and other business establishments remained closed. Transportation also saw a drop due to the Bharat Bandh. Petrol pumps were also closed in the state capitals and other areas.
Security is quite high in the districts right now. 34 companies of security forces and 5000 security personnel have been deployed in the various districts. All schools and colleges have been closed in Gwalior.
