Tamil Nadu Honor Killing incident: Couple thrown into Cauvery alive
Recently a Tamil Nadu honor killing incident came into light. Police found a body of a youth floating in the Cauvery near Shivanasamudra, about 135 km from Bengaluru. Two days later, the body of a younger woman surfaced at the same spot. This led to the arising of suspicion that they had been murdered together.
Investigations Mandya police pointed to a gruesome “honor killing”. It was allegedly orchestrated none other than the woman’s father whose wrath knew no bounds because of her daughter marrying outside the caste.
The couple has been identified as Nandish, 26 and Swati, 19. They are from Tamil Nadu. They were hiding in Karnataka but were found their family members. The murderers had tied their hands and legs and allegedly thrown them alive into the river. Mandya police shared photos of the couple with all the police stations, including in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. Information of the hapless couple soon trickled in.
Nandish and Swati were both residents of Chudagowndanahalli village of Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu. They fell in love and decided to marry though they belonged to different castes – Nandish was a Dalit and Swati belonged to a higher caste. Their families would never agree to their relationship. This led to the gruesome Tamil Nadu honor killing incident.
They married secretly three months ago and fled from the village. They were living in Hosur. It was all good until November 10, when they decided to attend a public meeting where Kamal Hassan was to speak. They were discovered there. The father has admitted to the cops that he killed his daughter and the husband.
