PM Modi emphasized to deepen India’s engagement with Africa.
In his second leg of Africa tour, PM Modi addressed the parliament of Uganda and said India is proud to be Africa’s partner.
He outlined 10 guiding principles for deepening India’s engagement with Africa to tackle the issue of terrorism and help Africa in its economic growth.
He said, Uganda, also known as “Pearl of Africa” is a beautiful country with rich heritage and great resources. He added that Uganda will always be central to our commitment to the continent.
PM Modi also laid emphasis on the need of the world to cooperate rather than compete, especially in the eastern shores of Africa and the eastern Indian ocean.
He also assured to give the support for grown and upliftment of Africa in the sectors such as health, education, agriculture and digital literacy.
With the terrorism rooting its feet in every corner of the world, PM Modi also exhorted the demand to cooperate with each other to root out the problem terrorism from the world in general and Asia in particular.
Modi also cited a Ugandan saying “Anayejitahidi hufaidi” which means “one who makes the extra effort will benefit”. “India has made that extra effort for Africa. And will always do so for Africa’s benefit,” Modi said.
He said Indian companies have invested over USD 54 billion in Africa and India’s trade with the continent is now over USD 62 billion. This is over 21 per cent more than in the previous year. Africa’s exports to India are growing. And, our economic ties are now increasingly driven new partnerships of innovation in the digital economy,” he said.
