ICC tells the BCCI to pay up $ 23 million
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has told the BCCI to pay up $ 23 million. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is currently facing this huge problem. The amount translates roughly to Rs 160 crores in Indian currency. The amount has to be paid before 31st December. The ICC wants the BCCI to pay up $ 23 million to compensate for the tax deductions incurred in hosting the 2016 World T20 India.

The ICC is headed former BCCI President, Shashank Manohar. BCCI is expected to compensate for the tax deductions when India hosted the tournament two years ago. They did not get a waiver from the central or state ministry. BCCI has been reminded of this demand, mentioned in the minutes of ICC’s board meeting in Singapore in October.
The Indian board is now governed Supreme Court- appointed Committee of Administrators. They have less than 10 days left to comply with the ICC’s demands. The ICC threatened to deduct that amount from India’s revenue share for the current financial year should the BCCI fail to do the needful.
The ICC also threatened that if India failed to comply, the governing body will look at “other options” to host the 2021 Champions Trophy and the 2023 50-over World Cup. Both of these are scheduled to be hosted India.
Star TV, the official broadcast rights holder of all ICC tournaments, had deducted all taxes before paying the global body for the World T20 of 2016. They now want the BCCI to compensate for it.
The BCCI has asked the ICC to share the minutes of any meeting where it is recorded that India has agreed to a tax waiver. Sources said that the ICC has not provided any minutes to the BCCI yet.
