Congress is demanding JPC probe into Rafale, says SC misled

Rahul Gandhi on Friday reiterated that Congress is demanding JPC probe into the Rafale deal. This demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe came after SC’s verdict. BJP has promptly rejected the demand. Rahul Gandhi said that he was confident that an investigation would surely implicate two people – PM Narendra Modi and his “corporate friend”, Anil Ambani.

Rahul claimed that the CAG report presented to the Supreme Court was fake. He said, “I have the PAC Chairman with me. You ask him whether he knows of such a report. How did the Supreme Court see something that was never presented to PAC? In fact, no CAG report is in the public domain on this issue. It has not been submitted so far.” This is why the Congress is demanding JPC probe into Rafale.

Mallikarjun Kharge, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee was present. He added to the mystery of the missing report and said that neither the PAC or the CAG was in possession of the report referred to the Supreme Court. He said, “I spoke to the deputy CAG today and he told me no such report exists. CAG reports are referred to the PAC… if the report is not with CAG, the question of it reaching the PAC does not arise. In fact, once a report comes to PAC, we have to table it in Parliament. This is when its contents come into the public domain. According to rules, until a report is tabled in Parliament, its details cannot be made public. This is very strange, it is wrong that PAC has been dragged into it.”

Congress also objected to the SC reference that the IAF Chief had expressed reservations over the disclosure of Rafale’s pricing. No such objection was placed on record before the court.
