Why Artificial Intelligence Is Important to Humanity In Present Context?
Artificial Intelligence is important to humanity. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the use of computers to mimic human cognitive processes for decision-making. NITI Aayog published a paper talks of powering five sectors- agriculture, education, healthcare, smart cities/ infrastructure and transport – with AI. For this India would have to develop AI tools for a range of applications i.e. reading cancer pathology reports, rerouting traffic in smart cities, telling farmers & consumers about the quality of agricultural produce, and picking students at high risk of dropping out from school etc.
Human is the only progressive creature on the earth, who creates technology to make his/her life better & easier, and AI is no exception. While it may sound timeworn but it is the need of the hour. The greatest promise of AI is that of beneficial change at a faster rate than ever before and accelerating.
AI develops within the business processes, as data are mined from digital platforms, and turned into intelligence, which is ploughed back to produce more data and intelligence, in an infinite loop. So Artificial Intelligence is important to humanity. Some of the world’s largest cornering the market for AI researchers with backgrounds in mathematics and computation such as Baidu, Google, Alibaba, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. Beyond economics dominance, AI is as much about cultural, political and military power.
India’s Position on AI
Now, if the government of India is serious about AI solutions powering agriculture or healthcare. It must collect and digitize data better under its existing programs. AI is a collaborative process in which scientists developing solutions for certain sectors need an intimate knowledge of those sectors. There is no other route to becoming an AI superpower. India with its highest IT as well as entrepreneurial/ managerial competence, and has a huge domestic market. India is among extremely few countries that can make it. So, Artificial Intelligence is important to humanity in the present context.
