The Indian Space Organization (ISRO) is gearing up to launch GSAT 7A communication satellite on Wednesday. But how is it important and how is the GSAT 7A launch significant for the Indian Air Force (IAF)?
GSAT 7A launch : It’s Importance for the Indian Air Force (IAF)
The GSL-F11 (GSLV Mk II) rocket will launch GSAT 7A. This GSAT 7A launch will be done from the second launch pad at Sriharikota at 4:10 pm on Wednesday. It will be launched into the geo orbit. The communication satellite will enable the Indian Air Force to interlink different ground radio stations, airbases and AWACS aircraft. It will boost the airforce’s network-centric warfare capabilities. It will also enhance its global operations.
GSAT 7A will not only interlink all airbases, but it will also boost drone operations as it will help the air force upgrade from existing ground-control stations to satellite-control of military unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This development has come at the opportune moment. india is currently in the process of acquiring American armed Predator B or Sea Guardian drones. These drones are high altitude and long endurance satellite-controlled UAVs. The drones can fire at enemy targets from long distances.
The communications satellite costs around Rs. 500-800 crores. It is configured on the standard 1-2k Bus. It has a bi-propellant chemical propulsion system for orbit raising and in-orbit maintenance. Its four solar panels are capable of generating about 3.3 kilowatts of electrical power.
Before the launch of GSTA 7A, the ISRO has already launched GSAT 7. It was also called “Rukmini”. That satellite was exclusively for the Navy. It has helped the Navy monitor the Indian Ocean Region as the satellite nautical mile ‘footprint’ and provides real-time inputs to Indian warships, submarines and maritime aircraft. The IAF is also likely to get another satellite GSAT 7C.
The GSAT 7A launch will allow the IAF to have a visible upgrade.
